Waterfront Law Team Helps remove 1,000 pounds of trash from Lake Windsor

After taking a couple months off during the heat of the summer, the Pender & Coward Waterfront Property Law Team participated in another waterway clean up with Lynnhaven River NOW. This time, along with our usual cadre of Pender & Coward employees and family members, some of our friends from the Hampton Roads Association of Legal Administrators joined us in cleaning up Lake Windsor in Mount Trashmore Park.

Mount Trashmore was an appropriate location for a cleanup as it was once a landfill. Now, through foresight and engineering, it is Virginia Beach’s most visited park. Lake Windsor, unlike its freshwater neighbor, Lake Trashmore, is a brackish body of water that is fed by Thalia Creek. The Team focused on cleaning up the area near the creek, which includes a natural isthmus that is used for fishing.

A Beautiful Virginia Day

The weather was simply amazing and it was a perfect day to be outdoors. Together, all of the volunteers collected 477 pounds of trash on land and another 481 pounds of trash out of the water. That is nearly 1,000 pounds of Styrofoam, bottles, cans, straws, cups, and other assorted litter. Even more amazing, team-member Brian Peeples managed to not fall in the water for once. We appreciate Lynnhaven River NOW setting up this event and look forward to helping them keep Virginia Beach clean, green, and resilient!
